3000 and Climbing!

Fran Nixon, center, a longtime rider, receives the Way to Go! program's 3,000th ride.

Glen House, left, was her driver, and David Parkinson, right, is the program manager.

The Way to Go! transportation program of Fairfield Glade Resident Services (FGRS) just keeps piling on the achievements and surpassing milestones.

Since the program began in January 2015, the Way to Go! drivers have given over 3,000 rides, traveling more than 77,000 miles in helping their neighbors who can’t or don’t drive. Such examples like this reflects on and substantiates the fact that “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” is alive and well in Fairfield Glade.

Fran Nixon, a long-time rider, was the 3,000th person to be driven by one of the original drivers, Glen House. David Parkinson has been the program manager of the Way to Go! program since it started. FGRS congratulates and thanks all their drivers. They have performed above and beyond, and they thank them for their dedication.

As the number of clients (riders) grow, FGRS is always looking for more volunteers (drivers) who would like to join in this effort. You will never know how grateful the riders are nor the satisfaction you can get from helping someone get to the doctor’s office or some other essential destination. Helping them remain living independently in their own homes is the goal. Volunteers can make a difference in someone’s life by becoming a driver for Way to Go! So please call the FGRS office at 456-7272 during office hours of 9 a.m. to noon. Monday through Friday. Get an application, fill it out and be on your way to a very gratifying way of helping neighbors.

As always, anyone who can’t, doesn’t or shouldn’t be driving are encouraged to join the program and get where they need to go, when they need to be there. Call the office at the above number and ask how to become a rider.

All accomplishments of the Way to Go! transportation program and other programs offered by FGRS is only made possible by support from the Fairfield Glade community and surrounding businesses. The FGRS office is at 4929 Peavine Rd., Ste 102. Stop by and see if there is something they can do for you or fellow residents.

Fairfield Glade Resident Services (FGRS) is a non-profit corporation chartered by the state of Tennessee and certified by the IRS as a 501(c)(3). Its vision and mission is to provide human and social service programs to all residents of our community, especially those who want to stay in their homes as they age. FGRS evolved from studies that were conducted in 2007/2008 by the Fairfield Glade Community Club’s (FGCC) Long Range Planning Committee, which showed an immediate need for such services. The creation of FGRS was encouraged by the FGCC Board of Directors.

FGRS was formed by a group of resident volunteers who accepted the challenge and are dedicated to the principle that “Together, we can enhance our quality of life”. The “separate” non-profit corporate status of FGRS offers the opportunity to establish a funding base, through grants, gifts, and fund raising activities, needed to support the development and implementation of resident services. It also provides for the recruitment of resident volunteers who will assist in delivering programs and services to "enhance our quality of life”.

We promote, develop and support human and social services that enhance the quality of life for our community's residents. Current programs include:
